  • Q What is 308nm Excimer Light?

    The 308nm excimer light is a light wave with a wavelength of 308nm, produced using xenon chloride (XeCl) as the active medium. In the presence of high pressure and a strong electric field, chlorine can accept an electron from xenon, forming an unstable xenon chloride molecule. These molecules, known as excimers, quickly revert to their original elements, chlorine and xenon. The light emitted from the excited state of the unstable xenon chloride excimer is termed 308nm excimer light.

    The therapeutic principle of 308nm excimer light in treating vitiligo is to utilize 308nm excimer light irradiation on depigmented areas, stimulating the differentiation, maturation, and migration of melanocyte stem cells in hair follicles and the skin. Moreover, it can induce the apoptosis of T lymphocytes, thereby facilitating the repigmentation process in the affected skin areas.

    ● Hypopigmentation: Skin that has become lighter due to injury, trauma, or previous surgical procedures.
    ● Vitiligo: A hypopigmentation disorder resulting in depigmented patches on the skin.
    ● Psoriasis: A prevalent skin condition marked by the presence of inflamed plaques.
    ● Additional Dermatological Conditions: Based on scientific literature, 308nm excimer light may also be effective for conditions such as localized severe atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, mycosis fungoides (a type of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma), localized scleroderma, and granuloma annulare.
