Empowering Biosafety Protection with Lighting Technology — GMY Participates in the 2025 National Conference on Biosafety

From October 24 to 27, the 2025 National Conference on Biosafety was successfully held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The conference was hosted by the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), and co-organized by the Biosafety Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention of China CDC, the Institute of Pathogen Biology and the Institute of Laboratory Animal Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, as well as the National Key Laboratory of Pathogen Biosafety.

The conference, themed “Comprehensive Prevention and Coordinated Governance: Toward a New Paradigm of Biosafety,” brought together over 600 experts, scholars, and representatives from medical and health institutions, research organizations, and disease control systems across China. The program included one main venue and five sub-forums, featuring nearly 100 academicians and renowned experts who shared their insights and research on topics such as global biosafety risk prevention and governance, infectious disease and zoonotic outbreak control, laboratory biosafety management, biotechnology and safety governance, as well as the management of human genetic and special biological resources.

As one of the participating organizations, GMY’s Chairman, Mr. Hong Yannan, delivered a keynote report titled “The Role of Ultraviolet and Infrared Light in Epidemic Prevention and Control.”

In his presentation, Mr. Hong introduced the research progress on the safety and effectiveness of 222 nm far-ultraviolet light for air and surface disinfection, as well as the application studies, mechanisms, and practical cases of near-infrared light in epidemic prevention and health care. His discussion was based on the physical properties of light and its biological effects.
